A few steps from the ship will soon have you at a small pier where you will board your private jungle safari boat and begin with a tour in one of the most diverse ecosystems of the area, the Tarcoles River.
Here you will be amazed by giant crocodiles, iguanas, and aquatic birds as your skilled tour guide will help you locate them. After approximately 2 hours on the water, it will be time for lunch. Enjoy a delicious and authentic Costa Rican lunch which consists of a combination of rice, beans, salad, potato or squash picadillo, and a meat of choice (fish or chicken). A natural fruit beverage and dessert (coconut and sugarcane caramel called "cajeta") round out your meal of local delicacies.
Next you will take your comfortable transportation back to Puntarenas town via an approximately 45-minute drive. The scenic countryside landscape provides breathtaking views along the entire route. Located in the northern section of the strangely shaped Puntarenas province lays the most important city in the region, Puntarenas. Not only is the province the largest in the country, but fittingly to its namesake, the city of Puntarenas is the largest city in the province. Being on the coast positioned the city of Puntarenas to be an important part of Costa Rica's history. The location made it ideal to become a cargo port, and in fact, it was once one of the most important seaports in the country.
Once back in town your guide will provide a narrated tour around Puntarenas and you will leisurely walk through the famous Paseo de Los Turistas, a boulevard that stretches along the beach near where the cruise ships dock. You will then be returned to the pier area after this amazing day spent in Costa Rica with memories that will last a lifetime.
